Alhambra 2 Launch review by Donna Simpson

The Draymin bid farewell with a great gig - by Donna Simpson
Printed in the Fife Free Press 1st Jan 2009 and the Herald and Post 8th January 2009

If fans are a sign of a good band, then The Draymin can go out on a high.

Anyone who bought a ticket for Saturday nights Alhambra2 launch night would be forgiven for thinking they had stepped in to see a chart topping act dropping off at the impressive Dunfermline venue during a UK tour.

The venue was packed with around 1,000 people waiting to see the headliners, who sadly announced their demise earlier this month.
The bars were rammed and the queus to buy CDs was overflowing. The headliners were, of course, The Draymin - the Rosyth band who have spent the past four years knocking at the door of the music industry, and who decided last month that Saturdays gig would be their last.

And it was a showstopper. Despite having support from some of Fife's best up-and-coming bands at the moment, and talent in the way of Glasgow's Skinflints, The Draymin were altogether a different class and quite simply stole the show. Going through their back-catalogue of The Music / Oasis / Kasabian inspired material, including 11.10, Don't Fade Away and I'm There, as well as new tunes Stop The People and Life Is A Debut - both o9f which had everybody singing along, the band wasn't going through the motions - they were giving this final appearance their all.

It's an unusual thing to see dozens of friends storm the stage after a band has finished. But nothing said how much this band would be missed quite like that.

There was a definite air of sadness after the boys played their last song - the more than fitting Don't Fade Away - music fans here have, quite simply, lost a band that should have been signed years ago.

Stuart Adamson Fan's Commemoration

Stuart Adamson Fan's Commemoration

News Post - 20th January 2009 - from http://www.kinemagigz.com

For some time now I have believed that there is a strong desire amongst friends & fans to permanently express the warm affection and respect we all have for Stuart Adamson.

I think many wish to honour his memory and articulate the high esteem in which Stuart's legacy is held amongst his personal friends & the fiercely loyal fans, from his home city of Dunfermline in Scotland to the most remote corners of the globe where his words & music touched souls, lifted hearts & entertained millions worldwide.

Having contacted Stuart’s family last year, agreement was reached that the time was right to go ahead with such a commemoration.

Paramount in any project in Stuart’s name is the principle that it must be something that we feel Stuart would have approved of and so we sought and have secured a strong association with Dunfermline Athletic Football Club at their home ground, East End Park Dunfermline.

The original idea of a small plaque has now evolved into a large mural to be painted on the back wall of the north stand facing the pitch and a portrait to be hung in ‘Legends’ bar at the ground.

The collection made amongst those who attended the Skids fan gathering at The Corner Music Bar in Dunfermline on Saturday 5th July 2008 will assist in the purchase of materials for these.

Now here’s where I need to ask for your assistance again.

We wish to append some words to the portrait to be positioned in ‘Legends’ bar and who better to suggest such words than you guys who know Stuart's work so well?

I would ask that you consider choosing some appropriate words from Stuart’s lyrics and perhaps some of your own to express how and why we feel the way we do about Stuart and send your thoughts to me via the 'Feedback' page of KinemaGigz.com where we will consider them all for inclusion.

Watch this space for further exciting news of other aspects of this commemoration project.

Submit your choice of words for Stuart's portrait at KinemaGigz.com (click the 'Feedback' button)

Thank you,
Ghoulz.
